Controversy
Parimala’s father files six cases against Jaggesh for child marriage
21 year old Jaggesh married Parimala at the age of 16. Parimala’s father, who was a politician, filed six cases against Jaggesh for marrying his underage daughter. While talking about her marriage in an interview, Parimala said,
We then decided to have a registered marriage and made it official to my parents when I turned 18. So after my lab exams, under the pretext of going to the graduation party, we went to the registrar’s office and got married. I was underage, but the rules were relaxed back then and age proof was not required.
Due to the complaint filed against them, Jaggesh and Parimala had to undergo police investigation and could not meet each other until Parimala turned 18. Parimala was later transferred by her father to Chennai for further studies.
Unfortunately, a friend who witnessed our wedding lost her senses and told my parents. My father was angry and filed a police complaint against Jaggesh. The police arrested my husband and beat him. I was also taken to the police station. We had to write a letter that we would not contact each other again and only after that Jaggesh was released. My father transferred me to a school in Chennai and I had to leave immediately. I had to stay in Chennai for a year. There was no contact with my husband during that time. I didn’t even know what he was doing and whether he still loved me. People thought that this would be the end of Jaggesh’s love story. As for me, I was relaxed about him and had no doubt that we could get back together after he turned 18, so I just continued with my daily activities.
