Amy McGrath is an American politician currently running for the Kentucky Senate on the Democratic Party ticket. Ella McGrath has a mammoth task ahead of her when she takes on incumbent Senator Mitch McConnell. Amy failed in her first bid for an electoral seat after losing the 2018 election for Kentucky’s 6th congressional district.
McGrath announced his campaign for the Kentucky Senate seat in July 2019. He narrowly defeated state representative Charles Booker in the Democratic primary to win the party ticket.

Amy and her husband, Erik Henderson, were married on December 19, 2009. Henderson served as a helicopter pilot for the US Navy. According to his LinkedIn profile, he was stationed in Hawaii from 1999 to 2003. He moved to bases in Texas and Louisiana before moving to Washington DC to serve as Assistant Operations Officer at the Naval Air Facility at Joint Base Andrews.
Henderson has retired from the force and is currently looking to enter the business sector. Amy and her husband have divergent political views, as he is a Republican and she is a Democrat. Erik did not vote for Amy in the party’s primary, but he served as treasurer on her campaign team. McGrath told the state newspaper that one of the reasons he ran for office was to help bridge the gap between Democrats and Republicans:
“I think it was the combination of the 2016 election cycle, the fake news, the divisiveness, the labeling of each other. My husband is a lifelong Republican. I’m a Democrat. That’s America. And it made me very sad to see the country so divided. I felt we needed better leaders, because it starts at the top.”
