Social media user Nia Mullet is sparking debate after she shared a TikTok video of herself hosting a “nesting party” instead of asking her friends and family for baby shower gifts.
“Last night I had my nesting party instead of a baby shower and it was amazing,” Mullet explains in the video.
In the video, you can see the mom-to-be celebrating her upcoming journey into motherhood by asking her friends for help during a crucial moment. It is important to have the house clean before the baby arrives. However, not all moms find it easy to achieve the burst of energy known as the “nesting” phase, in which they thoroughly clean their home in preparation.
Mullet explains that she and her friend Bree organized it. She sent Bree a “list of things she wanted to do” before having the baby. Bree proceeded to make vibrant pink cards, each of which designated specific areas of the house for cleaning tasks.

In the video, the women gathered at Mullet’s home, where they were then assigned various cleaning tasks, including tidying up the pantry, fixing window sills, and organizing drawers.

Instead of bringing gifts, playing games, or decorating with baby-themed items, nesting party guests arrived equipped with dusters and brooms, ready to embark on a thorough house-cleaning mission.
“I took on a more supervised role, telling people where I wanted things and then we took a dinner break,” Mullet narrated in the video.
A few hours after the event, Mullet shares that she and her friends had a nice dinner before returning to work.
“We ate some soup, some sourdough breads, some sweets and chatted about this baby and what it will be like.
“Then we went back to work and everything was so clean and organized and I feel so much more prepared for this baby,” Mullet said.

In addition to cleaning, everyone also brought frozen food in case Mullet needed it during her postpartum period.
“It was so much fun. I highly recommend a nesting party if you’re getting ready to have a baby,” she said as the video came to an end.
