Dana Marie Perino is an American political commentator famous for having served as the White House press secretary in the latter stages of President George W. Bush’s second term. Perino was the second woman to hold the position of Press Secretary after Dee Dee Myers served under President Bill Clinton.

Dana and Peter met in 1997 after they were the last two people to board a flight from Denver to Chicago. The couple sat next to each other and talked throughout the trip. Perino was attracted to Peter, but she wasn’t sure if a relationship between them would work. She said in a Hudson Union Society interview:
“Ok sir, I know I asked him to help me find someone, but he lives in England, he is 18 years older than me, he has been married twice before. Did I mention that he lives in England? This can not be possible!”
After a two and a half hour conversation, Peter and Dana exchanged contacts. A short time later, the couple went on their first date at a New Orleans movie theater. After a whirlwind romance, Peter proposed to her in front of the Washington Cathedral. However, Dana waited until the first anniversary of their first meeting to give her an answer. “Well, I wasn’t expecting an answer at the time anyway, it was partly a joke. The couple’s marriage in 1998 represented Peter’s third marriage. Dana stated in the yahoo lifestyle interview that the reason their relationship has blossomed is because they support each other in their careers.
Dana has been open about her marriage, but refrains from discussing her previous relationships. She offered the following response to a Colorado Politics inquiry into the identity of her first boyfriend: “My God, I don’t know who it was! This is not an escape… and in fact, nowadays with Google, I will refuse to testify!”

Perino was born on May 9, 1972 in Evanston, Wyoming, the son of Janice and Leo Perino. He grew up in Denver, Colorado, and attended Ponderosa High School in southeast Denver. After high school, he enrolled at Colorado State University-Pueblo to study mass communications.
She then gradually rose to the position of White House Press Secretary. Dana’s conservative ideals were part of the reason she had such a great relationship with former President George W. Bush.
One of the main reasons he chose conservatism was because choosing any other ideology would have been too easy. She said:
“I’m a conservative because everything else seems easy by comparison. And when something is too easy, it’s either too good to be true or it’s sure to fail and disappoint. I wasn’t impressed by the alternatives to conservatism: I gravitate toward facts, logic, and reality, while for me, liberalism is based on theory, sentiment, and fantasy.

Most political journalists and commentators tend to lean toward one side of the political divide. However, despite identifying as a conservative, Dana doesn’t pay much attention to her political ideals when she’s on the air. She said Lounge;
“I think that in the last two and a half years I have not expressed my personal opinion on politics more than a handful of times because I think that undermines my credibility. I want people to be willing to listen to my 2 o’clock show and my 5 o’clock commentary. Sometimes people call me ‘the voice of reason’ and that’s something I think is very important to me.”
Dana also takes a different approach when it comes to social media journalism. She acknowledges that social media is a great tool for journalists to convey news and opinion, but she also sees it as a risky way of doing journalism. She said Variety:
“I follow a lot of conversations on social media, but I don’t urge them. I think a lot of (newscasters) are doing it now. To do your job you have to think clearly. There are many people who worry that if they are not active on social media, their grades will drop. But we’re also seeing that people can ruin their career in an instant on social media. So it’s easy to figure out the cost-benefit analysis there.”
Perino revealed that it took her a while to adjust from being a politician to being a journalist.
Looking at Dana Perino now, you’d have a hard time believing it took her some time to adjust to her job as a journalist. Perino appeared to seamlessly transition from political figure to media personality. However, she told him Colorado Politics it wasn’t as easy as she made it out to be. dana said:
“Going from being someone else’s spokesperson to expressing my own opinions and thoughts was the most difficult transition for me. It took me a long time to get used to that. Now that we’re approaching our 10th anniversary of ‘The Five,’ I think I’ll finally start to get it.”
Perino appreciates that journalistic opinions impact people’s actions, but believes that people can make independent decisions regardless of the opinions expressed on cable news. “I am sure that the citizens will absorb all that information and make decisions about how they will vote based on that,” he said.
