Following R. Kelly’s arrest for sexually assaulting women and children on multiple occasions, it has now been revealed that one of his alleged victims, Joycelyn Savage, is engaged to the R&B singer. According to court records obtained by AllHipHop, the 26-year-old claimed to be his fiancee. A legal letter to the court pleaded for mercy before his 30-year sentence.
R. Kelly was sentenced to 30 years in prison on June 28 in federal court in Brooklyn. The singer was found guilty of human trafficking for sexual purposes, as well as racketeering. Joycelyn Savage said in a letter to Judge Ann Donnelly that she is not a “victim” as “the government is making her out to be.” She continued, saying:
“My friendship with Robert is fantastic. He is the most wonderful thing that has ever occurred to me. We share a strong bond and are madly in love. I still support Robert because I adore him and I will always be there for him.”
R. Kelly, according to Savage, “is not the monster the government has made him out to be.” The 55-year-old, she claims, is “extremely lovely, polite and compassionate”. She continued, saying:
“At the end of the day, he always took care of me, as well as all the other ladies he was with.”
The alleged victim went on to say that the criminal was “extremely enthusiastic” about his music. She also characterized him as “happy, sociable and extremely gifted”. She also said that what his other alleged victims said about him being “held against our will” was completely false. The fiancee went on to say that she is “truly in love” with R. Kelly and is not a victim. She concluded the letter with a request that the court take this into account when sentencing Kelly.
Joycelyn Savage’s relationship with R. Kelly
Joycelyn Savage traveled to Chicago with Kelly to pursue a career in music. As Capital Xtra reports, she broke off relations with her family after she turned 19. Her parents claimed she was “brainwashed” and a member of a “sex cult”, which Savage later denied. Savage came out in 2019 to describe the assault episodes. Kelly, she said in a Patreon post, told her to call him “master” or “dad.” She continued to say that he was “controlling” and that he would raise his voice at her.
Joycelyn Savage also called him a “monster” for getting her pregnant. She also claimed that she was forced to have an abortion and surgery at his home. Azriel Clary, like Joycelyn Savage, is the alleged victim. She hasn’t spoken to her family since she turned 18. Clary, who will turn 24 this year, went on to produce the Lifetime documentary series Surviving R. Kelly, which detailed the horrific abuse she allegedly suffered at the hands of the R&B artist. Kelly is still in jail awaiting a new trial. He will face child pornography charges in Chicago in August.
