It’s that time again–patch 6.2 brings another new level to Final Fantasy 14, which means new raids, new gear, and of course, new codex. But what happens to your old stele? Fortunately, the process is simple and predictable, so I’ll explain it below.

The way currency works in Final Fantasy XIV is that at any given time there are two rules of the end of the game. Both tomes can be obtained by working at the highest level (90), but one has a weekly limit (450/week), while the other can be farmed indefinitely.
A new bounded book (causal in 6.2) appears at every even-numbered patch, at which point the previously bound book (astronomy) becomes unbounded. The previously untapped Tomestone (motto) is deprecated and can no longer be used to purchase things from vendors.
Note that if you’re looking for a Moon Landing kit previously purchased with Proverbs, it’s now available at These can be purchased from NPCs to get a bag of seeds. J’lakshai of Old Sharlayan [12, 13.3] or Wilmetta of Radz-at-Han [10.5, 7.5] will have them.

If you have any unused Maxim Stones, you can exchange them for Astronomy Gems in a ratio of 4:1. Go to Mor Dhona and meet Auriana chat [22.7, 6.7] and select “Allagan Tomestones of Aphorism Exchange”.
Since you can only keep 2,000 Tomestones of each type, especially interested players will max out their Maxim before the patch for an instant 500 Astronomy bonus for crafting materials.
I have an astronomy book, now what?
Astronomy is used to purchase the newest crafting materials that are worth a lot of gold, especially around the beginning of the patch, when players craft battle gear in preparation for attacks new savage.
You can get it from Cihanti Buy materials from Radz-at-Han at [10.8, 10.4] In “Allagan Tomestones of Astronomy (Other)”. You’re looking at the crafting materials for the newest tier, which is the more expensive set at the top of the list (20 pieces each).
You can either sell the material yourself on the market, or if your craftsman is ready you can craft combat gear and use it or sell it. Either way, they can make you little money, so be sure to spend them!
