Nearly a year after his medical emergency, HGTV star Ty Pennington is opening up about nearly dying during the incident.
In July 2023, Pennington revealed that he had undergone emergency surgery after doctors discovered an abscess in the back of his throat. The situation occurred days after she went to the Barbie premiere.
“To shed some light on why he was missing… on Sunday I arrived on the red carpet to [Barbie]. On Monday I flew to Colorado to start filming in Breckenridge. And on Tuesday morning I woke up at 4 a.m. and I could barely breathe,” Ty Pennington explained. “Turns out that sore throat I had for the last month was actually an abscess that had grown so big that it was closing off my airway. The next thing I knew, I was intubated and flown to the ICU in Denver.”
Pennington ended up having surgery and was released from the ICU a few days later.
Eight months after the medical emergency, Ty Pennington opened up to Entertainment tonight about the terrible experience. “I’m great,” she declared. “The good thing is that if you almost die, you get a lot of attention. It feels so nice to be loved like this.”
He continued to joke that he planned to have another medical emergency. “I’m not kidding!”
Ty Pennington Says Throat Near-Death Experience Gave Him a Different Perspective on Life
As he continues talking to Entertainment tonight Regarding the situation, Ty Pennington said he has a different perspective on life.
“It made me realize that you just don’t know when your time card is going to be taken away,” Pennington explained. “So wake up, live each day to the fullest. I mean, that’s why the ’60s are going to be the time to start doing everything and that’s what I love about being a part of these projects because I think we all want to make sure that we’ve done things to be remembered for.”
Also talking about the upcoming season of his hit HGTV series. swing the block, Ty Pennington says there are some “stars” who will compete. “I think this season could be the best season ever because the stakes are so high because it’s about pride and saying, ‘I’m a winner,'” he added. “And when you have four teams that are trying to prove themselves, there’s nothing they can hold back, and that’s the kind of design, that’s the kind of passion that I love to see.”
The new season of Rock the block It premiered on Monday.
