Helen Glover began her career in July 2008, when she was accepted into the Sporting Giants program and assigned to the GB Rowing Team “Start” program.
In February 2010, she left her teaching position to row with the Reading University eights, finishing third in the Head of the River women’s eights race.
She placed second at the 2011 World Rowing Championships and won the coxless pairs event at the GB Rowing Team Senior Trials at Eton-Dorney.
Helen and Stanning won the coxless pairs event at the 2012 GB Rowing Team Selection Trials held at Eton Dorney on 10-11 March. On August 1, 2012, they also won gold in the women’s coxless pairs event at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Helen won the BBC’s Olympic Superstars 2012 women’s competition in December. Then, on August 31, she won the world women’s coxless pair title at the 2013 World Rowing Championships in Chungju, South Korea, partnering Polly Swann.
