HBO Denies Report That ‘The Idol’ Won’t Return For Season 2

HBO talks about The idol.

The network issued a statement following an earlier report, which suggested that The Weeknd and Lily Rose-Depp-led series will not return for season 2.

Ratings for the second episode dropped 12%, or over 100,000 viewers, from the June 11 premiere.

HBO PR tweeted on Thursday (June 15): “It is being misreported that a decision on a second season of The idol has been determined. He hasn’t, and we look forward to sharing the next episode with you on Sunday night.”

page six reported that there would not be a second season, and cited sources who spoke about The Weeknd’s alleged “difficult” behavior on set to affect the decision.

The Weeknd has since addressed the backlash over the awkward sex scene.
