Harish Dwivedi or Harish Chandra is an Indian politician and member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 2022, Dwivedi made headlines when one of his SUVs crushed and killed a Class 2 student named Abhishek Rajbhar near Hardiya petrol pump in Basti district.

Harish Dwivedi was born on Monday, 22 October 1973 (age 49 years; as of 2022) in Teliajot, Katya, Basti district of Uttar Pradesh. He studied in Kisan Inter College of Basti. He did his MA in Political Science from Hiralal Ramniwas Post Graduate College – Khalilabad, affiliated to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Gorakhpur University (1998). Before entering politics, he was a farmer.

2012 Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election
In 2012, he contested the elections from Basti Sadar assembly seat and lost. He finished third with 32,121 votes; This seat was won by BSP candidate Jitendra Kumar.
2014 general election
In 2014, he contested from Basti Lok Sabha seat and defeated SP candidate Brij Kishore Singh “Dimpal” by 33,562 votes. From 1 September 2014 to 25 May 2019, he served as a member of the Standing Committee on Energy and Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Coal. He served as a member of the Standing Committee on Information Technology from 19 October 2016 to 31 August 2018 and as a member of the Standing Committee on Finance from 1 September 2018 to 25 May 2019.
2019 general election
In 2019, he contested from Basti Lok Sabha constituency and defeated BSP candidate Ram Prasad Chaudhary by 30,355 votes.
On 13 September 2019, he became a member of the Standing Committee on Energy. From 9 October 2019 to 23 February 2021, he served as a member of the petition committee. On 9 October 2019, he was appointed as a member of the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. On 1 May 2021, he became a member of the Estimates Committee. On 29 September 2021, he became the Chairman of the Petitions Committee and a member of the General Purposes Committee.

Allegations of assault and threats
In 2022, the MP-MLA court issued attachment warrants under section 82 of the CrPC against Harish Dwivedi and his two brothers, Subhash Dubey and Bagish Dubey, in a 2019 case. All three were declared fugitives by the court. Reportedly, a case of assault and death threats was registered against Dwivedi during the Lok Sabha elections in 2019. This case was registered under sections 323, 324, 504 and 506 of the IPC. Since the matter was related to MP-MLA, it was monitored from the High Court level. The court issued warrants on 22 July, 10 August and 22 September 2022 asking the three accused to appear, but they did not appear on all three dates.
Class 2 student crushed to death
In November 2022, Dwivedi came into controversy when a nine-year-old boy named Abhishek Rajbhar was crushed under his SUV near Hardiya petrol pump in Basti district. On November 27, 2022, the police registered an FIR against the unidentified driver of the SUV under charges of rash and negligent driving or riding on a public way. Basti Superintendent of Police Ashish Srivastava assured that investigation is underway. However, the victim’s father Shatrughan Rajbhar alleged that despite the MP and his SUV being clearly visible in the CCTV footage, no action was being taken by the police against Dwivedi or the driver. The victim, Abhishek Rajbhar, was a student of Hardiya Primary School, studying in class 2.
