Career

Professional squash player

Harinder pal Sandhu started playing at the age of 10. Later at 13, he moved to Chennai with his coach to train in squash at Indian Squash Association (ISA), where he was mentored by Cyrus Poncha, Ashraf Karagui and David Palmer. In 2005 he joined Professional Squash Association (PSA) and turned Pro in the same year. He won the national title in 2019, by beating 8-time champion Saurav Ghosal. He was a part of the Indian team, who won the gold medal at the 2014 Asian Games held at Incheon. Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu won the first match 11-8, 11-6, 8-11, 11-4 against Mohd Azlan Iskandar of Malaysia and gave India a 1-0 lead over Malaysia.

Comeback 

In 2019, during the CCI International Squash Open in Mumbai in January, Harinder injured his back and could not play. After a gap of 9 months, he made a comeback with the HCL SRFI Indian Tour.

  •  In an interview, talking about making a comeback after a major injury, he said,

    Even now, I am a bit scared to play. The pain was so severe [then]. I was training really hard and I was hoping that this season would be the best I’ve ever had. I was hoping to reach the top 30. I had the tournaments and training planned out with [SRFI Secretary] Cyrus Poncha. And suddenly out of the blue, it just snapped. Everything went blank.”
