Happy National Donuts Day 2023: National Donuts (or Donuts) Day is celebrated on the first Friday of June every year. This day marks the significance of a joyful meal during World War I. And this year it falls on June 2.
A celebration of the favorite food of Barack Obama, Homer Simpson, and the police, it dates back to the Salvation Army’s involvement in World War I. Volunteers on the front lines of the war chose donuts as the simplest meal. Rumor has it that these volunteers even used war helmets as tools to bake seven donuts at once. These brave volunteers later became known as the “donut girls”.
Then, in 1938, National Donut Day was established to honor members of the Salvation Army who risked their lives to help soldiers during World War I.
