Hell, the action roguelike from Supergiant Games is fun and very hard. The game’s protagonist is Zagreth, the prince of the underworld, who tries to escape to the surface, but his first attempts may be unsuccessful. He finds things that make him stronger, things that stick between games, and he meets various characters from Greek mythology. Some are helpful, some can even be romantic, and some are assholes.
Finally, after much effort, Zagreus finally emerged. However, soon after, he returns to the House of Hades to start over. This is where the real challenge comes in, as players now have the option of increasing the difficulty with punishing contracts for additional rewards, as well as unlocking hell’s portal to the underworld.
Unlock Hades .’s Chamber of Hell
The Gates of Hell work in a similar way to the Gates that cause Chaos. They appear randomly and there is a fee to enter them. First, they must be unlocked.
The first requirement to open Hell’s Gate is to defeat the final boss. They can then purchase the “Contractor’s Desk, Deluxe” Hell Modification in exchange for two diamonds. Once completed, they can purchase the Underworld Overhaul “Alternative Exit” for two more diamonds. At this time, the gate of hell will appear. The entry requires Heat, which can be obtained by accepting the Sanctions Treaty challenge. Tartarus Gate is 5 Heat, Asphodel is 10 Heat and Elysium is 15 Heat. After the Heat fee is paid, the gates of hell will open.
Hell’s gate leads to Erebus. In Greek mythology, Erebus is sometimes a primordial god and sometimes a place (depending on the source). Hell, Erebus Chambers is where the challenge is to defeat all enemies without getting hit by bullets. That is a difficult scenario to define, one that can be more easily achieved with ranged weapons. Being able to stay in range means players have an advantage over melee enemies and more time to react to projectiles from enemies at range. If the player is hit, the reward is a red onion that only heals for 1 health, and Hades taunts Zagreus. As if he hadn’t done enough.
Why would anyone be willing to put themselves through such a difficult test? Some people really like the challenge, but it can lead to some serious rewards. In addition, players always have three exits to choose from, which means they are more likely to get the reward they want in the next chamber. In contrast, Chaos Gate sometimes only offers three exits.
