GTA Cayo Perico Island Size Compared To Full Los Santos Map

Grand Theft Auto V fans have compared the size of GTA Online‘s Cayo Perico Island to the full map of Los Santos, giving them a better idea of exactly how big the new area is. Dubbed GTA Online‘s biggest update ever by developer Rockstar Games, the Cayo Perico Heist update adds a significant amount of new content to the seven-year-old game.

Along with the new heist, the Cayo Perico update introduced a new island for GTA Online players to discover, as well as new radio stations and updated track lists. With so much new content coming with one update, the Cayo Perico experience truly feels more expansive than any previous GTA Online update. The island of Cayo Perico itself is also remarkable in the sense that it is a new piece of land, separated from Los Santos, that players can explore solo or with friends – just not in free-roam.

Grand Theft Auto data miner VideoTech_ got curious about the size of the island in relation to mainland Los Santos and took the internet to share their findings. Video Tech_ posted several images comparing the Cayo Perico island and Los Santos models side by side, as well as one with the island laid on top of Los Santos for scale. In a tweet, VideoTech_ writes, “here’s Los Santos and Cayo Island from above the sky & in Los Santos to get more of an idea of the exact size.” Despite all of the content included in the Cayo Perico Heist update, the island itself appears to be no bigger than downtown Los Santos, stretching from what appears to be the Rockford Hills area (home to tritagonist Michael De Santa, to just short of the Los Santos International Airport.

Cayo Perico Island is also not as densely populated as Los Santos, since it is a private island and houses the paramilitary compound of a notorious drug lord. Instead, the island is home to a port, an airfield, a cocaine farm, and DJs hosting beach parties (and perhaps even Fortnite-style concerts in the future). However, as VideoTech_ notes in another tweet, “It feels massive. It looks small from a distance, but it’s bloody huge when you’re on the island. You will be surprised when you play it.”

At the moment, Cayo Perico Island still cannot be explored in free-roam mode, and it is unclear if this will ever be the case – at least, without the assistance of mods. The island appears like it will maintain some novelty for a while, as it can only be accessed during the duration of the new heist, meaning GTA Online players will not be allowed to overstay their welcome and tire of it for now. Still, regardless of size, a new chunk of map to explore is a welcome addition to a seven-year-old game with no public sequel plans like GTA Online.
