An angry grandmother spilled some “Bad Blood” when a criminal interrupted her watching the Taylor Swift movie “Eras.”
Albuquerque resident Anissa Tinnin was spending a pleasant evening with her 4-year-old granddaughter when they unexpectedly encountered a fugitive who was trying to evade police. Initially, his quick reflexes forced him to leave her home, but after her second intrusion, Tinnin, prepared and determined, confronted him with her firearm and shot him.
“Go back. Go back. I have a gun. Go back. Go back,” Tinnin screamed during her 911 call for help as Joseph Rivera, 32, confronted her. Just ten minutes earlier, she was happily singing and dancing to the Taylor Swift movie with her granddaughter, unaware of the chaos unfolding on the street.
The grandmother knew that the criminal was a problem
Authorities said Rivera was identified driving a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Candelaria and Rio Grande last month at approximately 9:30 p.m.
The deployment of spike strips led Rivera to crash the car, prompting him to flee on foot through Candelaria, before jumping a fence onto Tinnin’s property. The family’s Ring camera meticulously recorded his movements, capturing his entry into the house.
“I jumped on this couch and we were there by the front door… That’s when he grabbed me and got upset and told me to give him my keys. He said he didn’t want to go to jail. She threatened to harm my granddaughter and me,” Tinnin told Albuquerque’s KRQE.
Taylor Swift’s loving grandmother managed to escape a bullet, ensuring the thief has a cruel summer
The brave grandmother tried to calm the criminal who crashed into Taylor Swift. “As we were walking… I put my hands on him… to try to calm him down… Tell me what your name is… Tell me where you’re from,” she recalled.
Rivera was looking for her keys, and while Tinnin was looking for them, she called 911. In the background, she could be heard doing everything in her power to persuade him to leave her house.
“I told him not to hurt us, that I would do whatever he wanted. He would give her keys, money, whatever it took,” Tinnin said. The offender then took his car keys and left.
She says that after Rivera came out, he immediately dialed 911 and ran to his gun box to retrieve a gun. For unknown reasons, Rivera re-entered the house. By then, she had already ensured the safety of her granddaughter by placing her in a bedroom. However, Rivera aggressively charged at her.
She threatened to shoot if he did not back down and fired when he did not comply. Despite this, she showed compassion by providing him with first aid, while she warned him against any wrong moves.
Police arrived and Rivera was taken into custody, facing charges of robbery, auto theft and additional crimes. With five prior felony convictions for burglary and robbery, the pressure was immense for Tinnin. However, this armed grandmother overcame and managed to save the day.
