Valkyrie Queen Gnà and Berserker King Hrolf serve as overwhelming optional bosses in God of War Ragnarok, but one endgame enemy is simply tougher than the other. The mythological action game is packed with content, including a lengthy storyline and various optional side quests. After finishing the story of God of War Ragnarok players can dare to face Gná and King Hrolf, and both will test the limits of Kratos’ combat prowess. Still, one optional boss is truly a greater challenge.
2018’s God of War included the Valkyries as incredibly difficult optional bosses, with the Valkyrie Queen Sigrun serving as easily the greatest opponent in the entire game. In God of War Ragarok these winged warriors are replaced by Berserkers, undead fighters who can be found at gravestones scattered across the Nine Realms. Defeating the twelve Berserkers lets Kratos face King Hrolf Kraki, a regal wraith who poses a challenge for even the most skilled players. However, visiting Muspelheim after finishing God of War Ragnarok’s story will also let players face a brand-new Valkyrie Queen named Gná. Both enemies can easily match Kratos in combat, but only one can be the game’s hardest boss.
King Hrolf Kraki Is Stronger Than Gná In GoW Ragnarök
While Gná channels the power of Sigrun, the Queen of the Valkyries from God of War, King Hrolf Kraki is ultimately the stronger foe. The Berserker King is similar to Sigrun in that he combines the moves and abilities of every Berserker fought before him, essentially making him a final test of the God of War Ragnarok combat system. Hrolf will throw a massive variety of moves at the player, attacking from range with elemental blasts or moving in close to strike with various spectral weapons. Hrolf can also shield himself from certain elements, forcing players to change up their tactics by switching between Kratos’ various weapons.
Valkyrie Queen Gná is definitely a worthy opponent, but those who beat Sigrun in 2018’s God of War will likely recognize most of her moveset. She’ll swoop in for unblockable wing strikes and throw shining discs from afar, making her fight feel familiar compared to the brand-new arsenal employed by King Hrolf. Gná does use some new moves, including ranged attacks that only Freya can interrupt, but in general she feels like a rematch against Sigrun. The process of actually facing off against Gná is also much less climactic than fighting Hrolf, since players simply find her in Muspelhim while King Hrolf Kraki is locked until the lesser Berserkers are defeated.
While Gná is a fun and difficult challenge to overcome, players are likely to struggle more to defeat King Hrolf in God of War Ragnarok than to best the new Valkyrie Queen. Hrolf brings a brand-new moveset to the table, borrowing abilities from his Berserker followers to create a truly robust arsenal of attacks. Gná, meanwhile, feels more like a rematch against Queen Sigrun with a handful of new moves to suit the sequel’s updated combat system. Each player may struggle to defeat one endgame boss more than the other, but High King Hrolf puts God of War Ragnarok and its combat system to the ultimate test.
