in an emotional Good morning america In the segment, Michael Strahan’s daughter Isabella opened up about her brain tumor diagnosis.
The 19-year-old college student is currently undergoing treatment after being diagnosed with medulloblastoma, a common malignant tumor that grows in the cerebellum, the part of the brain at the base of the skull.
As Isabella Strahan and her father explained in G.M.A. On Thursday, they learned of his condition in late October 2023. He then underwent emergency surgery at Cedars-Sinai to remove the mass on October 27, just one day before his 19th birthday.
Isabella will begin chemotherapy at Duke Children’s Hospital & Health Center in Durham, North Carolina, next month. She says she “feels good” before her treatment.
“I feel good. It’s not that bad,” said Isabella Strahan. “That’s my next step. I’m ready for it to start and I’m one day closer to being done. …. I’m very excited for this whole process to be over. But I think that you have to continue living every day, throughout the entire process.”
Strahan’s co-worker, Robin Roberts, detailed the size of the tumor, stating that it was about the size of a golf ball lodged at the base of his skull.
“I literally think in many ways I’m the luckiest man in the world because I have an amazing daughter,” loving father Michael Strahan added. “I know she’s going through it, but I know they never give us more than we can handle and she’s going to crush this.”

Michael Strahan has been away from ‘GMA’ to spend time with Isabella
Isabella noted that she began noticing symptoms after starting her freshman year at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles. “I didn’t realize anything was wrong until probably Oct. 1,” she said. “That’s when I definitely noticed headaches, nausea and couldn’t walk straight.”
Strahan went on to explain that he initially dismissed the symptoms as a minor illness. However, when he woke up in the early hours of October 25 “vomiting blood,” he could no longer ignore the danger.
“That’s when we decided, ‘You really need to get a complete checkup,’” Michael Strahan said. “And thank God for the doctor. I feel like this doctor saved her life because she was thorough enough to say, ‘Let’s do a full checkup.’”
Upon receiving a full MRI at Mount Cedars-Sinai, doctors found the 4-centimeter tumor. “It didn’t seem real,” Michael recalled. “I don’t really remember much. I just remember trying to figure out how to get to [Los Angeles] As soon as possible”.
He G.M.A. The host has been absent from the show due to “personal family matters” and revealed that his daughter’s health was the reason. It is understandable that Michael Strahan has taken time away from work to spend his time with his daughter.
“It’s been like two months of keeping it a secret, which is definitely hard. I don’t want to hide it anymore because it’s hard to always keep it inside,” Isabella said in GMA. “I hope to be some kind of voice and be [someone] who maybe [those who] are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation.
