Glennon Doyle Opened Up About Her Anorexia Struggles And Mental Health Diagnoses

January 3, 2022 Glennon Doyle, a 46-year-old writer and activist, discussed anorexia and her mental health diagnoses on her We Can Do Hard Things podcast. In an Instagram post, Doyle revealed the topic for her upcoming podcast conversation.

Anorexia nervosa, commonly known as anorexia, is an eating condition in which a person completely changes their eating habits. They reduce calories and carbohydrates, ultimately leading to weight loss. Anorexic people are unable to maintain an acceptable body weight for their age, height, and stature. They may engage in obsessive exercise regimens and feel the need to purge the food they consume, either by intentionally vomiting or using laxatives. Anorexic people often have a distorted self-image and are very afraid and worried about gaining weight. Excessive weight loss in an anorexic child can lead to malnutrition and other serious health problems. Patients can even die under extreme circumstances.

At first, Glennon Doyle believed she was having a relapse of bulimia.

Doyle often co-hosts his podcast, We Can Do Hard Things, with his wife, former American soccer star Abby Wambach, now a coach, and his sister, Amanda Doyle. Glennon Doyle revealed in her latest podcast that she thinks she’s recovering from bulimia, an eating disorder. However, after years of maintaining this mindset, Doyle was diagnosed with anorexia, which shocked her and denied it. Glennon Doyle first sought medical help because she suspected she was returning to bulimia. She explained to the doctors that she wanted to learn how to regulate these relapses so she could be less fearful and free of the threat that was lurking.

According to Today, Doyle’s doctor after a medical evaluation told her that her medical history and medical tests showed she had anorexia. She was clearly shocked by the news. Doyle went on to talk about how hard it is for her to accept that recovering from anorexia requires tremendous strength. In the kitchen, she and her husband converse informally, during which Wambach informs her that he cannot do much for Doyle and that he must find the courage to fight alone in the war.

According to Today, Wambach told Doyle on a sponsored podcast:

“It’s hard for me to say this. I feel like I have to say it – say it out loud – because you need complete control over the process.”

Doyle responded by saying that by now she remembered being cold to the bone. She says she has never felt more alone in her body. Doyle went on to say that people told her it was she who was unwell and that she needed to deal with her illness. Glennon Doyle soon began reading literature on anorexia to try to learn more about the eating disorder. She said it caused a significant shift in her perspective.

Doyle revealed his feelings about the works saying:

“I started reading this book about the life of an anorexic. I don’t know how to describe how it feels to read things that you believe are part of your personality and who you are, just to discovered that they were actually a collection of symptoms of an endemic disease.”

Doyle informs viewers that it’s surprising that she’s someone whose work is built on introspection and discussion of the intricacies of human identity, but isn’t aware of it. about myself. Doyle said she was pretty embarrassed about it.

Doyle said she still struggles with anorexia. She reflected on how she coped with bulimia over two decades ago. Doyle said she had been a “terrible foodie” for a long time before becoming pregnant. Glennon Doyle talked about her struggle with bulimia and how she applied great discipline, control and determination to overcome her eating problems. Doyle previewed the podcast episode on Instagram, saying she’d rather talk about her anorexia while still in rehab than wait until her life is “beautiful and bright” again.
