Gerrard Flores died at noon on Jan. 7 while competing in a wrestling match at Arvada West High School. Flores had medical problems during the game, and firefighters and police arrived. According to police public information officer Dave Snelling, efforts to revive Flores were futile. Flores was taken to an ambulance but died en route and was pronounced dead at the scene.

“One of the judges at the wrestling tournament got sick,” Snelling said. Arvada firefighters and police arrived and he was treated. He died despite all resuscitation efforts.”

After Flores’ death, the wrestling event was canceled. Flores was a popular figure on the Colorado wrestling scene. He was a former varsity wrestler who earned a degree in business administration from Northeastern Jr. College. In 1988, Flores worked as a supervisor for Time Warner Cable in addition to being a wrestling referee.

Gerrard Flores, originally from Colorado, has two boys, Treo and Tristin Flores. His two sons did not comment, but posted nostalgic photos with their father. Tera Flores, the singer, posted on Twitter a childhood picture of her sitting on her father’s lap. He added a broken heart emoticon to the post’s description. Tristin Gerrard, Gerrard’s youngest son, posted a photo of himself with his father at Fenway Park.

There are videos of Gerrard umpiring at children’s baseball games. Malessa Hernandez, his sister, posted a video of her brother umpiring numerous baseball games.
