Ganga Dussehra Day is dedicated to Goddess Ganga and celebrates Goddess Ganga’s descent as a river to Earth. According to Hindu mythology, King Bhagiratha prayed to God Brahma and underwent immense penance to bring the heavenly river Ganga to Earth. His wish is to free the souls of his ancestors from the curse of the sage Kapila. Pleased with Bhagiratha’s devotion, God Brahma granted his wish and asked God Shiva to hold the mighty Goddess Ganga in his tangled curls and gently drop her to Earth.
