In a recent interview with Today show, Friends Creator Marta Kauffman revealed her concern about Matthew Perry’s journey toward sobriety. Her concerns about Perry began while filming the hit comedy’s 2021 reunion special.
During the interview, Kauffman said, “I was worried about him, knowing that he had been through everything he had been through.”
He went on to talk about the actor who died at age 54 on October 29: “And every time they operated on him, they gave him opioids for the pain and the cycle starts again.”
Perry revealed in his 2022 memoir, Friends, lovers and the great terrible thing, who previously struggled with substance abuse. The actor’s opioid abuse caused him to spend two weeks in a coma and five months in the hospital.
As reported by Entertainment WeeklyKauffman later told Hoda Kotb that when he spoke to Perry two weeks ago, he seemed fine. “It looked better than she had seen in a long time. I was very excited to see that. “I was in a good place emotionally,” he said.
