Floyd Mayweather is in legal trouble again after a California man alleged that the boxer ordered an assault against him.
The plaintiff, Eduardo Andrés Torres Martínez, claims that Mayweather ordered one of his bodyguards to hit him. The incident occurred at a restaurant in February 2022. The news was first reported by TMZ.
“In Martinez’s lawsuit, which was filed Tuesday, he says Mayweather and his Mayweather Money Team walked into the restaurant… and caused such a commotion that he pulled out his phone to take video of the scene,” TMZ wrote.
“But Martínez claims that when Floyd noticed he was recording… the legendary boxer signaled to one of his bodyguards to take care of the situation.”
Manny Pacquiao hints at a rematch with Mayweather
Mayweather has built a great career. He has an unblemished boxing record of 50-0 and a net worth of over $400 million. The boxing legend made a splash in May 2015 when he took on Manny Pacquiao.
After the fight was postponed several times, Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision. He reportedly earned a purse of approximately $250 million, while Pacquiao earned a humble $150 million.
Both fighters have since retired, but Pacquiao recently hinted at a revenge be in process.
Boxing legend warns against Mayweather/Pacquiao sequel
A rematch won’t be as big as the first fight between the two rivals. But the names on the page generate enough ire to spark interest. Both fighters are around forty years old. But Mayweather might have a slight advantage over his longtime rival. He has competed in several exhibition matches since he retired.
Even if it’s a rematch just for fun, former boxing star Ricky Hatton warns it could end up going wrong if you’re a true boxing fan.
“The only thing boxing fans have is seeing our heroes come back and get hurt trying one more time and getting knocked out and destroyed. But I’m all for exhibitions because you get to see your heroes one last time to show off their skills and not get hurt,” Hatton said.
“There’s a lot going on in boxing these days with YouTubers fighting UFC and UFC boxers. But as long as people know that exhibitions are glorified training and showing off their skills one last time, you don’t have to worry about seeing your hero get knocked out and hurt.”
