FFXIV: Treasure Hunting Guide

What is a treasure map?

The treasure map is a pretty lucrative spin-off that works like this: you decipher an ancient treasure map in your inventory and it gives you a magnified map tile with an X on it, in true pirate style.

First, if you’re using the treasure maps on your own, you’ll need to complete the Treasure and Tribulation quest to get some action on them. This will allow you to decrypt (right click > decrypt) the map and allow you to dig for treasure after finding the location.

The decoded map is in the main item section of the inventory. You find out where this location is in the afterlife and dig up a treasure there (“/ac dig” or put it on your hotbar). A treasure chest appears, you try to open it, a bunch of monsters attack you, you defeat them, then actually open the chest and get some unbelievable rewards.

For some types of maps, you can also create a portal that takes you and your party into a great treasure vault where you can get even more gifts. The top tier map available is the old Zonureskin map at level 80, which has a chance to create a portal to the Lyhe Ghiah dungeon.

Go on, gamble more!

What is the treasure hunt reward?

Profitable treasure hunt. It is the exclusive source of a number of minions, decorations, and crafting materials to craft enchanting gear. It is also a good source of materials, crackle clusters, elemental crystals and clusters. You will also get some gil, tomestone, and intermediate crafting materials. Some of these items can only be found after you get to the upper floors, so you’ll have to get lucky.

Disappointed, here I come!

In the Lyhe Ghiah dungeon, the highest level treasure dungeon, you’ll find Clockwork Machine Fuath Minions, Stuffed Fuath Table Decorations, Insane Orchestra Scrolls, and fascinating crafting materials Fabrics Indigo and Fireglass Leather. Indigo Cloth is also a potential bonus for defeating enemies wearing chest armor before entering the dungeon gates.

Older dungeons still have some exclusive drop items, mainly housing items, orchestra scrolls, spell crafting materials, and emotes. You can also earn some trophies from various treasure hunts. They can be found in Achievements > Battle > Treasure Hunt.

Where do I get the map?

Treasure maps are tradable, so you can buy them from the Market at any time. If you want to catch them yourself, you’ll need an Advanced Botanist or Miner. These maps have a chance to appear as hidden items when you collect them from level 80 nodes (visible from level 75).

You can collect the map every 18 hours, you can follow this map from your timer menu. My favorite places to get a quick Zonureskin map are north of Fort Job in Lakeland as a miner or south of Tomla in Kholusia as a botanist.

Remember, these items are unique, so you can only have one of them in each inventory slot. I keep a decoder in my important items, one each in my inventory, my chocobo saddlebag, and my two followers’ inventory.

The old Zonureskin map that came from the level 80 node can drop the portal to the Lyhe Ghiah dungeon.

The Old Gazelle Skin map comes from the level 70 node and can drop a portal leading to the Lost Canal of Uznair or the Altar of Uznair Move.

The old rogue map comes from two Uznair dungeons that drop portals to Uznair’s hidden canals.

The old dragon skin map comes from the level 60 node and can drop portals to the water city.

It should also be noted that the leather map is not concealed, dropped from the treasure map

Where is the treasure chest located?

Come here, come here. Fight with monsters. Take the spoils.

Clicking on the decoded map opens a larger area map showing ethereum, allowing you to easily teleport to the area. If you’re not good at finding treasure chests yourself from decoded map pieces, here’s a website with a map of possible chest locations for different treasure maps.

How many people do I need to bring?

A team of four level 80 players can run through Lyhe Ghiah’s dungeon, but the more people in the party, the more comfortable and smooth it is. Obviously, you’ll probably have to compete with more people for the loot, but maybe those people also bring their own maps for a better chance of finding dungeons first.

There is a section in Party Finder called Treasure Hunt where you can create or join a group and find people from the same world to complete this. The typical ritual I’ve seen (at least on Light DC in the EU) is that everyone carries a map or two and you walk through them hoping to create a portal to a dungeon.

I like FFA (free to all) parties where everyone can roll demand for anything, but sometimes you also see “owner demand” parties where only the owner of the The current map you are using needs Rolling while the others roll greedily. Just be sure to note what kind of party it is before you start.

It’s worth mentioning that for old fashioned treasure hunting dungeons like Aquapolis your level won’t be synced down, but your ilvl will. The end result is that you’ll keep all the skills and sweet spins at level 80, but you’ll still need a bunch or you’ll die. Realistic monsters from lower level treasure maps that you can easily defeat at higher levels.

Do you like the newest treasure dungeon? What do you think of its exclusive items? Any real good or bad with drops? Let me know in the comments section.
