Fargo Season 5 Casts Kids In The Hall Star Dave Foley

Kids in the Hall troupe member Dave Foley joins the cast of Fargo season 5. FX’s acclaimed series Fargo has always been known for assembling impressive casts of award-winning actors. And the upcoming season 5 will surely be no exception, with Jon Hamm, Joe Keery, Juno Temple, Lamorne Morris and Jennifer Jason Leigh already having been confirmed.

Now that ever-growing Fargo season 5 cast list has added even one more member. As reported by Deadline, Foley is the latest performer to sign on for the next season of Noah Hawley’s critically adored FX show inspired by the Coen Brothers’ darkly comedic 1996 Oscar-winner. Listed as a series regular, Foley is set to play the amusingly-named Danish Graves, described as the in-house counsel to Leigh’s self-made billionaire Lorraine Lyons.

What Is Fargo Season 5 About?

Foley obviously is best-known as a member of the Kids in the Hall comedy team, who recently mounted a comeback via a well-received Amazon revival show. But Foley has acting experience beyond the realm of sketch comedy too, having starred on shows like NewsRadio, Hot in Cleveland and Spun Out. His movie resume includes everything from A Bug’s Life to Cars to Vampires Suck.

Fargo is of course well-known for telling a new self-contained story with each season, skipping around to different eras in American history in the process, and season 5 will be no exception. Indeed, after going well back in the past for the 1940s’-set season 4, Fargo will now leap ahead to contemporary times for a story placed in 2019 in the Upper Midwest (a region that obviously is very important to the Fargo legacy). Plot details are being kept under wraps for now, but the season’s action has been teased with the question: “When is a kidnapping not a kidnapping, and what if your wife isn’t yours?

How Fargo Season 5 Will Salute The Original Movie

Frances McDormand as Marge in Fargo in a snowy forest pointing a gun and looking afraid but resolute

This very vague kidnapping tease clearly sounds echoes of the original Fargo movie, which revolved around a desperate man’s misbegotten plot to snatch and ransom off his own wife. An additional tease throwing back to the original darkly funny Fargo was also offered recently by FX chairman John Landgraf, who promised that season 5 will be more “comedic” than previous seasons. Landgraf also teased that Temple’s character Dot is the show’s lead, a housewife with a secret who is “surprisingly capable.” Fargo the movie of course also featured a strong female lead in Frances McDormand’s Marge Gunderson.

It sounds as though, for what is expected to be the final season of Fargo, Hawley and company wanted to return things to where they began in some ways. And this will no doubt please those fans who were somewhat perplexed by the Fargo season 4 Kansas City turn, which was probably the least “Fargo-like” story featured on the show so far. Fargo season 5 is set to arrive in 2023.
