She was supporting her family financially, her father was suing her for how he was portrayed in her memoirs, and her house was in foreclosure, and it became a lot to deal with.
However, when she was in the hospital, she had a guiding light in the form of a nurse, who helped her realize that she never wanted to be in that position again.

The nurse brought Fantasia a stack of magazines that had her face covered and said, “Do you see that young girl? She is strong. She is a blessing. Don’t come back here again. You fight.”
“I walked out of that hospital and said, ‘I’ll never do that again, because I have a purpose,’” Fantasia said. Variety. “I’m going to speak into the lives of every young person and tell them, ‘Don’t you dare give up.’”
Now, Fantasia is determined to never reach that place again and to overcome it.
“I don’t care if things get ugly again,” he says of his future. “I don’t care if there are storms. I realized that I have the spirit of an eagle. They fly over the storms.”
