What are the main issues, polls and candidates behind Türkiye’s election? Let’s see.
Türkiye is getting ready for the elections on May 14, next Sunday. This will be the replica coming in the 20th year of Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s reign and the 100th of the Turkish Republic. Elections in Türkiye are being held in Europe and Asia, but the whole world is looking forward to them.
Purpose of the election
Türkiye has about 600 million voters. In the current elections, members of Congress and the president are elected.
The President will be elected by direct vote. The candidate who gets more than 50% of the votes will be elected. In the event that no candidate wins 50% of the vote, a second round of voting will take place on the following Sunday of the upcoming voting day. In such a situation, only the candidate with the highest score of the two candidates won in the first round of voting will run for office. The candidate who then receives the most votes becomes the president.
Proportional representation is a method of electing a 600-member Parliament. Here, voters will vote for parties, not candidates. The method devised is that the number of seats won by the party will be proportional to the number of votes for that party.
