Bobby Shmurda (real name Ackquille Jean Pollard) is an American rapper who rose to fame after releasing the 2014 hit hot black. The success landed him an unlikely deal with Epic Records and peaked at number six on the Billboard Hot 100. Shmurda’s debut EP, Shmurda she wroteIt was released at the end of 2014.
Shumarda, then 19, was considered one of America’s most talented rap prodigies. However, his arrest and imprisonment for possession of weapons and conspiracy to murder hindered his progression. The court handed down a seven-year sentence, but Bobby will be released at the end of February 2021 following a successful parole application.

Bobby’s father was sentenced to 120 years in prison when Bobby was two months old.
Bobby Shmurda was born on August 4, 1994 in Miami, Florida, the son of Gervase Johnson and Leslie Pollard. Gervase is Jamaican and Pollard is African American. Johnson was sentenced to 120 years in prison two months after Bobby’s birth. His imprisonment led Leslie to move the family to Brooklyn, New York. bobby said Complex that the family would probably still be in Florida if it weren’t for Johnson’s incarceration:
“My dad locked up in the south. Basically, if he hadn’t been locked up, he would have been a kid from Florida. When my dad got locked up, my mom moved here. But my grandparents are still there, my uncles are still there, so I’m flying back and forth. i’m kind of a mix [of North and South].
According Public Police Records, Gervase Johnson was jailed on murder and robbery charges. Johnson’s imprisonment did not affect his relationship with Shmurda. bobby said intensity regulator who remains in close contact with Gervase. He also revealed that his success elevated Johnson’s status in prison. He told the publication:
“Yeah, he said, ‘I see you, put on TMZ! Any mi youte dat! Yeah man I’m a pon di ting celebrity now. Now he no longer has to be hungry, he knows that a black man caught him”.
Bobby’s mom announced that Bobby will take it easy before heading back to the studio.
Bobby Shmurda’s mom, Leslie Pollard, took to Instagram on January 12, 2021 to celebrate her son’s upcoming release. “I’m counting down, wishing I could get to February fast,” she captioned a photo of Bobby. “I can’t wait to hug my son, it’s been almost a year, anxiety is getting the better of me.”
TMZ informs that Bobby will enjoy an intimate dinner with the family immediately after his release. Pollard told the outlet that Bobby is excited to be back in the studio, but that he plans to slowly wind down to make music. Bobby also plans to strictly adhere to the parole guidelines, which include checking in regularly with his probation officer.
Leslie Pollard served as Bobby’s manager before he went to prison and it is unclear if he will keep his position. She currently owns a cosmetics business, a car rental service, and a seafood restaurant in Brooklyn. As Bobby’s manager, she helped make sense of her October 2014 tirade about her not getting paid. She said Billboard which was a misunderstanding:
“It’s not that he doesn’t get paid, it’s that he’s new to the business. There’s a chain of command you had to go through before you got paid. Of course, they stick to that, so it really makes the show. Then it goes to his business manager, then to the roving accountant, and then to him.”
