Including Emmy winners like The Crown and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, there are plenty of hit TV shows ending in 2023. The year 2022 also saw the series finales of numerous beloved TV shows, with farewells being said to series like Better Call Saul, Atlanta, Black-ish, Dead to Me, This Is Us, and Ozark. Meanwhile, plenty of 2022-debuting TV shows that were renewed are expected to bring new seasons in 2023. Of course, this could also add to the number of TV shows ending in 2023, as most series will have to wait until after their premieres to see if they’ll be granted another season.
In addition to the TV shows confirmed to be ending in 2023, there are a few more hit series expected to conclude this year but haven’t received official announcements for their final seasons. Such examples include the potential series finales of Ted Lasso and The Handmaid’s Tale, which could arrive in 2024 instead. Nevertheless, there are a lot of popular TV shows ending in 2023, concluding the stories that fans have followed for several years in some cases.

Succession (2018 – 2023)
Despite its high critical praise, Succession will end its run with its fourth season in 2023. This, however, was the plan all along, according to showrunner Jesse Armstrong. The showrunner said there was a “promise in the title” (via Los Angeles Times) and that moment is coming very soon. Once that happens, Armstrong said that continuing the show would not serve the overall story, and they didn’t want to just keep going for no reason. Armstrong promised that Succession would be “a bit more muscular and complete, and go out sort of strong.”
Barry (2018 – 2023)
The hit HBO series Barry is coming to an end after its fourth season in 2023. Barry stars Bill Hader as Barry Berkman, a hired killer who wants to find purpose in his life but can’t get out of his life of crime. Bill Hader talked about how even executive vice president of HBO comedy programming, Amy Gravitt, didn’t know that the show was ending until season 4 began filming and he broke the news (via Variety). Hader mentioned that he wouldn’t want to keep going just to make more seasons and that the end of the series at this point was always at the forefront of his mind, and HBO has since confirmed the news.
The Blacklist (2013 – 2023)
NBC’s hit series The Blacklist is also coming to an end in 2023. This series will end after 10 seasons, although the past few changed things drastically. Megan Boone (Elizabeth Keen), left the series after the eighth season when she was murdered. This left James Spader’s Red on his own, and the show continued for two more seasons to finish up his story. When Red ended his work with the FBI, it set the stage for his eventual end. The one mystery left to unveil on The Blacklist is who Raymond Reddington really is, which will leave things exciting up to the final episode.
Titans (2018 – 2023)
When Warner Bros. brought in James Gunn and Peter Safran to run the DC Comics properties, it meant the end of an era. Not only is Gunn rebooting the movie franchise in the DCU, but he is also connecting all the HBO Max shows as well to that world. This meant Titans had to end. The show, which started off on DC Universe before moving to HBO Max, will finish its run with the upcoming second half of the fourth season. The good news is that Warner Bros allowed Titans to receive a proper ending with the final episodes.
The Goldbergs (2013 – 2023)
The 10th season of The Goldbergs will be the final one for the ’80s-themed sitcom. Debuting in 2013, the show ended up as one of the best nostalgia-based comedies on television in the last decade. However, several things happened to start its downfall. Supporting cast member Geroge Segal passed away and then shortly after that, series star, Jeff Garlin, was fired. His character Murray was killed off in the season 10 premiere and the series will now end at the end of that season.
Fear The Walking Dead (2015 – 2023)
The Walking Dead ended its run in 2022 and in 2023, its first spinoff series, Fear the Walking Dead will end its run in 2023. Much like how the original series had to deal with The Commonwealth, FtWD is dealing with the mysterious PADRE. The eighth season will not only mark the end of the series, but it will bring the past back to the story, as Madison turned out to still be alive and was partially responsible for Morgan’s daughter’s kidnapping, pushing the tension to unbearable levels for the final run. This won’t be the end of the franchise, though, as there are several more spinoffs coming.
Doom Patrol (2019 – 2023)
The biggest cult favorite DC Comics series to come out of the DC Universe slate of shows was Doom Patrol. There was nothing like the show, with a group of misfits gathered together by a reclusive genius to save the world. However, the show will end with its fourth season in 2023. According to star Mark Sheppard, the final episode of the fourth season will set up a real ending for the story this series has attempted to tell. Much like Titans, the first part of Doom Patrol season 4 already aired, and there are just a few episodes left before the series finale.
The Crown (2016 – 2023)
The critically acclaimed period drama about the Royal family is coming to an end in 2023. The Crown has followed the story of the British Royal family since the start of Queen Elizabeth II’s reign, but it is set to end in the late 1990s or early 2000s – over 20 years before the Queen’s death in September 2022. After plenty of controversy, Emmy wins, and notable casting changes, The Crown season 6 will mark the conclusion of the Netflix series.
The Crown originally planned to end after season 5, but decided to add another season due to the sheer number of notable events that occurred during the late 1990s, including the death of Princess Diana. It’s still unclear whether Netflix will expand beyond the historic reign of Queen Elizabeth by producing a prequel spinoff to The Crown, perhaps exploring the Royals in eras from several centuries ago. For now, the hit TV show is expected to premiere its series finale at the end of 2023.
Riverdale (2017 – 2023)
Riverdale has a reputation as an eccentric series that has been granted a shockingly long lifespan at the CW, but it is finally coming to an end in 2023. After first premiering in 2017 to positive reviews, season 7 of the dark teen drama adaptation of the Archie Comics will be its last (via Entertainment Weekly). Riverdale has taken some bizarre and unexpected twists along the way that have yielded plenty of discourse on the internet, so this aspect of the series will certainly be missed after its 2023 conclusion. Riverdale’s final season is set to premiere in March 2023.
Star Trek: Picard (2020 – 2023)
Also coming to an end in 2023 is Star Trek: Picard, which has enjoyed two seasons on Paramount+. With Patrick Stewart reprising his role from the franchise as Starfleet admiral Jean-Luc Picard, the series explores various facets of the title character in his older years. Picard is the eighth Star Trek series, with season 3 being outlined to conclude the stories of Picard and the other characters from Star Trek: Next Generation. Star Trek: Picard season 3 is set to premiere on February 15, 2023, which will end the TV show after its final 10 episodes.
Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan (2018 – 2023)
The Amazon Prime adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan is confirmed to end with season 4. Deadline reported that Amazon was likely aiming for a 2023 release date for season 4, but this hasn’t been announced yet. The John Krasinski-starring Jack Ryan season 3 premiered on Prime Video in December 2022, so it’s possible that the final season could be pushed back to 2024. Nevertheless, the action TV show about the title rogue CIA agent will come to an end in 2023. Following Jack Ryan’s ending, Amazon reportedly has a spinoff series starring Michael Peña in development (via Deadline).
Snowpiercer (2020 – 2023)
Starring Jennifer Connelly, Daveed Diggs, and Mickey Sumner, TNT’s Snowpiercer is a reboot of the continuity from Bong Joon-ho’s 2013 film of the same. Deadline reported that Snowpiercer season 4 will be its last, with the dystopian thriller intended to be the final scripted series to air on TNT before production on original programming is discontinued. The news broke that Snowpiercer will not air its fourth season on TNT, but the TV show is expected to find a new home to finish its run on another network.
The Flash (2014 – 2023)
After nearly a decade on air, the CW’s The Flash is finally coming to an end in 2023. The DC Comics adaptation stars Grant Gustin as the title superhero, having premiered in 2014 as a spinoff to the 2020-ending series Arrow. The Flash’s ninth and final season began on February 8, 2023, and will consist of 13 episodes to wrap up the TV show.
Never Have I Ever (2020 – 2023)
The hit Netflix series Never Have I Ever is ending with its fourth season in 2023. Created by The Office’s Mindy Kaling, Never Have I Ever follows Indian-American high schooler Devi Vishwakumar as she deals with the sudden death of her father and the woes of teenage friendships and romances. Since Never Have I Ever is a coming-of-age story, it makes sense for season 4 will conclude the story by exploring Devi’s final year of high school. Netflix hasn’t set an official date for Never Have I Ever season 4’s premiere, but it’s expected to arrive in summer 2023.
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (2017 – 2023)
The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel season 5 will conclude the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime TV show. The period comedy-drama follows the comedy journey of New York housewife Miriam “Midge” Maisel, with season 5 set to follow her rise to stand-up stardom. The TV series is coming to an end at the showrunners’ own decision, as Amy Sherman-Palladino told TVLine in 2020, “We don’t want to overstay our welcome. Midge has a journey she has to take… We know emotionally where we want to end her and at what point we want to cut it off.” Amazon hasn’t set a release date for The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel’s final season.
Manifest (2018 – )
After being canceled early by NBC, Manifest was saved by Netflix so the series could produce its fourth and final season. Part one of the fourth season debuted on Netflix in November, with the second half of the final season set to premiere in 2023. Netflix hasn’t confirmed the official release date for Manifest season 4, part 2, but it’s expected to arrive on June 2, which is the Death Date for the travelers and everyone in the world. When Manifest’s series ends in 2023, the characters will certainly have made daring missions to save the world from this impending date.
Nancy Drew (2019 – 2023)
The CW is concluding yet another series in 2023, with Nancy Drew season 4 being its final installment. The decision to end the mystery drama adaptation of the Nancy Drew novels had been in the works for a while, which gives the show ample time to provide a satisfying series finale. Considering the Nancy Drew spinoff Tom Swift was canceled after one season in 2022, the CW likely won’t be expanding on these characters’ stories any further. Though season 4’s release date hasn’t been confirmed, Nancy Drew is expected to end in 2023.
The Umbrella Academy (2019 – 2023)
Netflix is giving the superhero comic adaptation of The Umbrella Academy a fourth and final season. The end of The Umbrella Academy will conclude the story of the Hargreeves siblings, which includes beloved characters played by Elliot Page, Tom Hopper, and Emmy Raver-Lampman. Given the final season is following the production schedule of season 3, The Umbrella Academy season 4’s six episodes are expected to premiere in summer 2023.
Servant (2019 – 2023)
M. Night Shyamalan’s psychological horror TV show Servant is ending with its fourth season. The Apple TV original show’s final season will consist of 10 episodes, which are set to answer the burning questions regarding Leanne Grayson and the child in the Turner family’s home. Lauren Ambrose, Toby Kebbell, Nell Tiger Free, and Harry Potter’s Rupert Grint all return for Servant season 4’s emotional conclusion. Servant’s series-ending season released new episodes weekly starting January 13, 2023.
Hunters (2020 – 2023)
Three years in the making, Hunters’ second and final season dropped on January 13, 2023, on Amazon Prime. The first season, starring Al Pacino and Logan Lerman, followed a misfit group of Nazi hunters in the 1970s who were tracking down escaped Nazi offers conspiring to create the Fourth Reich in the United States. After a major twist reveal in Hunters’ 2020 season 1 finale, audiences will be able to see how the story of the Nazi hunters and their dangerous fight ends in its eight-episode 2023 season.
