Elle King has country music fans riled up and not in a good way. The musician recently appeared in a Grand Ole Opry production to celebrate Dolly Parton’s birthday. Parton recently celebrated her 78th birthday. The concert celebrated her legacy and achievements in country music. However, the “Ex’s & Oh’s” singer appeared to be drunk.
A TikTok user captured the interaction between King and the crowd. The singer jokingly stated, “You won’t get your money back.” King had a notable insult and seemed hostile to concertgoers.
She continued: “I’ll tell you one more thing. Hi, my name is Elle King, I’m fucking screwed.” King seemed to ramble heavily before preparing to play another song.
She said, “I’ll tell you what, I can barely play someone else’s song, let me see if I can play you one of mine.”
According to Fox News, King destroyed the lyrics to Parton’s song, “Marry Me.” In response, she said, “I don’t give a damn.”
Country fans criticize Elle King for Dolly Parton concert
In response to the videos, several fans took to social media to express their disappointment in the singer. One King fan wrote in the comments of the video: “I love Elle King, but this is NOT it.” Another commented: “She showed a real lack of respect not only towards Dolly but also towards Ryman. She seems like she gets drunk a lot.”
Another wrote: “I don’t know who Elle King is but standing there and disrespecting Dolly, I don’t want to meet her.”
On social media, The Grand Ole Opry apologized to a fan after he posted a scathing review of King and the concert. In response to the news that Lauren Alaina would not be performing, they commented on Dolly Parton would have been mortified. For our first time at The Opry, it was a shame that we all had to witness that.”
In response, the Grand Ole Opry commented: “We deeply regret and apologize for the language used during the Opry’s second performance last night.”
The individual continued after the Opry’s response, adding: “It was a huge disappointment to spend $300 on tickets to a show where one of the performers ruined an entire night. I mean, it’s The Opry, the best country venue in the world.”
