Edgar Lansbury, Tony Award-winning producer and younger brother of iconic actress Angela Lansbury, has died at the age of 94.
David Lansbury reported The Hollywood Reporter that his father died Thursday at his home in Manhattan. The cause of death was not revealed.
Perhaps Lansbury’s most notable contribution was producing the 1974-75 Broadway revival of Gypsy, starring his sister. This production won a Tony Award.

Edgar George Lansbury was born in London on 12 January 1930. His mother, Moyna Macgill, was a Belfast stage actress. Meanwhile, his father, also named Edgar, was a politician and timber merchant. His grandfather, George Lansbury, was leader of the Labor Party in England and a member of Parliament.
Lansbury studied art at Otis Art Institute and UCLA before becoming art director at CBS Television City. He art directed for shows including Skelton’s Red Hour, 90’s playhouse, The defendersand the 1962 film war fighter.
After working in television, Edgar Lansbury had a prolific career on Broadway
However, it was on stage that Edgar made his name. Lansbury’s first production on Broadway, The theme was roses. by Frank D. Gilroy in 1964, earned him a Tony Award for Best Play. His other contributions to Broadway are notable, including The only game in town (1968), Look at the lilies (1970), The magic show (1974), American buffalo (1977, which received a Drama Desk nomination), and lennon (2005).
In his later years, Lansbury also took on the role of producer of the 2011 Broadway revival of Godspell.
His filmography includes works such as T.the wild party. He also produced film interpretations of The theme was roses. and God Spell.
In 2007, The Acting Company honored him with the John Houseman Award, in recognition of his dedication to fostering the growth of classical actors and expanding the theater’s national audience.
In addition to his son David, an actor, he is survived by his second wife, the artist Louise Peabody. He is also survived by his other sons, James (assistant director at Seinfeld), George, Michael, Brian and Kate.
