Dwayne Johnson Gains Full Ownership of ‘The Rock’ Nickname, Joins Board of Directors of WWE Parent Group TKO

The power hierarchy in WWE is about to change. Dwayne Johnson officially gains ownership of his nickname The Rock. He joins the board of directors of WWE’s parent company, TKO Group.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, TKO officially celebrated the announcement on Tuesday. The company also owns UFC. Johnson signed a deal with the company over The Rock’s merchandise, which will net him $30 million over time. In exchange, WWE will be able to use the title for the next decade.

“My grandfather, Big Chief Peter Maivia, and my father, Rocky ‘Soulman’ Johnson, would have never thought this day would come,” Johnson said in a statement. “That’s why I feel very honored to have a seat at the table that has decades of history and family legacy for me. A table my family helped build. Being on the board of TKO and taking full ownership of my name, ‘The Rock’, is not only unprecedented. But it’s incredibly inspiring as my crazy life is coming full circle.”

Johnson started out in WWE as an actor before moving into movies. He recently returned to the franchise earlier this year. Johnson said he hopes to continue growing the brand.

“At my core, I am a builder who builds for the people and serves the people, and [TKO CEO] Ari [Emanuel] “He is building something that will truly change the rules of the game,” he added. “I am very motivated to help continue to globally expand our TKO, WWE and UFC businesses as global leaders in sports and entertainment. As we proudly represent so many phenomenal athletes and artists who show up every day and work hard with their own hands to make their dreams come true and fulfill our audiences. “I’ve been there, I’m still there and this is for them.”
