The statement also added: “We are devastated to announce the loss of Sir Michael Gambon” and calls him a “beloved husband and father… We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and we thank you for your messages of support and love.”

Michael took on the role of Dumbledore, replacing Richard Harris, who died in October 2002 after filming the first two films.

In addition to Harry Potter films, Michael was a well-known and beloved British theater veteran and protégé of Laurence Olivier.

Our thoughts are with Michael Gambon’s friends, family and loved ones during this time. RIP.

Tragically we have lost 12 Harry Potter stars since filming ended.
