Drew Hicks was born in Florida, USA. After completing his schooling, he went to St. Petersburg College, Florida for his graduation. When Drew was five, his family moved to India and he spent eleven years of his childhood in various locations across India, including Varanasi, where his parents studied Hindi at Banaras Hindu University.

Once, he told in a media interview that because of his father’s export business in India, he moved to Bihar where his father got interested in Madhubani painting. He said that he learned Hindi during his time in India and holds many places in India close to his heart. He said,
India has a diversity of landscapes, cities and people, making it difficult for me to pick a favorite place. However, I have some favorites such as Kedarnath for its natural beauty and mountains, Jaisalmer for its desert and architecture, Goa for its beaches, and Delhi for its parties.

After completing his formal education, Drew Hicks moved from the US to Thailand and started working for an online company. Subsequently, he started working part-time as a content creator in 2019, collaborating with other YouTubers including Korea’s Yachen Lee. Yachen Lee is known for his Bihari-Hindi accent and Korean appearance. Drew Hicks started a Hindi podcast with Yachen Lee in 2022.
