Both Madhuri and Mohan used to travel by bus to school and college respectively. On the bus, they will discuss a topic unusual for two teenagers. Seven years after their marriage, Dr. Brij Mohan Bhardwaj and Dr. Madhuri Bhardwaj established ‘Maa Madhuri Brij Waris Seva Sadan, Apna Ghar’ in Bharatpur, Rajasthan on 29 June 2000, Madhuri’s 27th birthday. Apna Ghar became a home for the homeless and destitute, the sick and the lost who were found wandering in public places. Today, there are 21 ashrams across India – Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi, which provide shelter to the sick and homeless. Volunteers of Apna Ghar Seva Samitis have set up Apna Ghar helpline, which provides immediate services to the homeless and destitute. More than 30 ambulances work day and night to take them to ashrams for relief.
