Dove Cameron opens up about the inspiration behind her devastating new breakup ballad, “Sand.”

During an interview with MY!The 27-year-old singer opened up about a few different romantic relationships she thought about while writing the song.

She also shared some of her favorite heartbreak songs.

“I was in a relationship with someone who loved me as much as he could,” Dove said candidly. “But we found out we couldn’t be together, and that’s its own form of torture.”

She added: “And then, I was also in a kind of relationship with someone who made it very clear that they loved me, but it felt very loveless.”

Some of the former Disney star’s favorite breakup songs are Chet Baker’s “I Get Along Without You Very Well,” Ashe’s “Moral of the Story,” and Lana Del Rey’s “Norman F-cking Rockwell.”

On Friday (December 1), Dove released the first part of their debut album, Alchemicaland explained the difference between the two parts.

It seems she is now in a new, happy relationship with a fellow singer.
