Divya Dwivedi was born in 1981 (age 42 years; as of 2023) in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. After completing her schooling, she joined Lady Shri Ram College, Delhi to obtain her Bachelor of Arts degree. After this he obtained Master of Arts degree from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi. After that, he obtained M.Phil degree from Delhi University and later, he completed his doctorate from Indian Institute of Technology in Delhi.

In 2003, Divya Dwivedi joined St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi and started working as an assistant professor on an ad-hoc basis. He then served as Adjunct Faculty in the Department of English at the University of Delhi from January 2011 to April 2012. In 2013–14, she was a visiting fellow at the Center for Fictionality Studies at Aarhus University in Denmark. In June 2017, Divya Dwivedi was elected as a member of the Committee on Literary Theory at the International Comparative Literature Association (ICLA). In 2022, he was elected as an executive council member of the International Society for the Study of Narrative (ISSN).

In 2023, Divya Dwivedi had courted controversy by talking about Hinduism in a conversation with France 24, a French news channel, during the ongoing G20 summit in Delhi.
