During the 2023 Cricket World Cup, Dilshan Madushanka claimed his first five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka in the match against India, and became the fourth Sri Lankan cricketer to take a five-wicket haul in the tournament.

Dilshan Madushanka, also known as Lokkumarakkalage Dilshan Madushanka, was born on Monday, 18 September 2000 (age 23 years; as of 2023) in Hambantota, Sri Lanka. His zodiac sign is Virgo.
He studied till 11th class from Hungama Vijayaba Central College, Hungama. He became interested in cricket when he was studying in school. Talking about this in an interview, Dilshan said,
My first encounter with cricket was when I saw some senior players playing cricket in the school grounds. Our school organized a big match about 4 or 5 years ago and it was only after watching that game that I wanted to play cricket.
Soon, he joined his school’s cricket team. However, his school only participated in junior level tournaments as cricket was an unaffordable luxury for schoolchildren. His school neither had a first-eleven team nor could it afford a two-day cricket game. Talking about this in an interview, Dilshan said,
Even to travel to matches, children had to save money. We didn’t get new balls for practice, we used used match balls. There were about 3 pairs of pads and 3 or 4 bats in the whole school, that’s what everyone used.”
Dilshan captained his school cricket team at the under-15 level and later went on to play for his school. She then started playing softball cricket and soon, attracted the attention of mainstream softball cricket teams in her area with her fast bowling. Meanwhile, he also played cricket for the district team. He participated in various coaching camps organized by Mr. Karunaratne, which later helped him earn a place in the provincial team.

In September 2022, during Sri Lanka’s Asia Cup match against India, Dilshan took the wickets of Virat Kohli and Deepak Hooda and made a great start to his international career.

On 10 January 2023, he made his One Day International (ODI) debut for Sri Lanka against India in Guwahati. In the match, he took his first ODI wicket of Rohit Sharma.
In 2023, his contributions to the Sri Lankan team during the ICC World Cup Qualifier helped the team qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup. He took 3 wickets each against Zimbabwe and Netherlands during the qualifier matches. On 2 November 2023, during the World Cup match between Sri Lanka and India, Dilshan claimed his first five-wicket haul for Sri Lanka in the match against India.
