Pop Smoke (real name: Bashar Barakah Jackson) was an American rapper and songwriter widely regarded as the face of the Brooklyn drill rap scene. Smoke launched his career in 2018, and within a few short months, he became a global sensation. His breakout hit welcome to the party earned him a contract with Victor Victor Worldwide and Republic Records.

Jakeilah Ortiz announced that she had a child with Pop Smoke after testing positive for paternity
It is a little known fact that Pop’s relationship with Jakeilah Orti gave rise to their son. Ortiz and the boy attended Pop’s funeral, but she waited for the results of a paternity test before announcing that he is Pop’s son. On June 22, Ortiz posted a photo on Facebook of the young man sitting on Pop’s headstone. Smoke along with the following legend:
“Body too sick with a heart as big as your dad. Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers who are no longer with us.”
Ortiz faced backlash after his post, with a large section of fans claiming he was lying. “I just want to know if I really think I would limit myself and go that far to let my son grow up without a father to entertain all you ruined mfks,” Ortiz stated in a subsequent Facebook post.
Since then, more photos of the boy have surfaced, and some people have noted that he resembles the late rapper.
Pop’s girlfriend, Alyssa Danielle, has a daughter from a previous relationship.
Before his death, Pop Smoke was in a relationship with model Alyssa Danielle (aka Yummy Yellow). Pop had avoided talking about her love life, but after her death, Alyssa confirmed that she was dating the rap prodigy.
On February 21, 2020, Alyssa posted a lengthy tribute to Instagram containing various details about the couple’s relationship. She revealed that Pop was reluctant to date, but eventually relented. She opened up about the Valentine’s gift Pop gave her and the progress of the couple’s relationship since January 2020. Part of the tribute read:
“I can’t sit down and say that I wish I had hugged you more before you walked out that door on Monday because I hugged you all night before that flight to Cali. I can’t even say we should have said I love you more that night/morning because we said it over 20 times. Daddy I love you. I adore you. You exceeded my expectations as a man. I tried to protect you from everything, you know? For anyone who ever loved him, or still loves him, I get it.”
Alyssa Danielle has a daughter, but the girl is not biologically related to Pop Smoke. Danielle’s 8-year-old daughter, Aaliyah, is from a previous relationship that she had long before she met Pop. On April 8, 2020, Yellow pointed to Aaliyah as the reason she stood her ground after Pop’s death. Through an Instagram post, he wished Aaliyah a happy birthday, adding:
“The only reason I have no choice but to stick together through anything and everything. Wishing her eyes would see the way I see her, absolutely perfect! I love you Lily Lily.”
