livelihood

Devon started his career as a professional cricketer in the year 2009 when he joined the Gauteng cricket team and in August 2015, he was selected for the 2015 Africa T20 Cup. Devon’s performances during the provincial level were excellent and in 2017 Devon scored his maiden first-class double century for Gauteng. This was his first double century in eight years of playing the game, but things did not go well for him as his performances in top-tier franchise cricket games were poor. He scored only one half-century in 12 matches with an average score of 22 runs. Devon felt that due to this unsatisfactory performance he would not be able to make a place in the South African team. In 2017, Devon decided to move to Wellington, New Zealand with his fiancée Kim Watson to give a fresh start to his career as a cricketer. Devon joined Victoria University Cricket Club as a player and coach. As a coach, he would travel around Wellington, visiting schools and coaching 10 and 11 year olds. In 2018, Devon signed a contract with the Wellington cricket team for the 2018–2019 cricket season in New Zealand. In May 2020, news broke about new entries in the 13-man Black Caps squad and in November, selector Gavin Larson informed Devon that his name had been shortlisted for the New Zealand cricket team. Devon Conway made his T20 International debut for New Zealand against the West Indies on 27 November 2020.
