Derek Hough’s Wife Hayley Erbert Shares Tearful Video After Skull Surgeries

Following his recent skull surgeries, Derek Hough and his wife Hayley Erbert talked about the procedures and how his recovery is going.

As previously reported, Erbert became disoriented and was taken to a nearby hospital right after her performance during the Dance Symphony in early December 2023. The dancer was diagnosed with a cranial hematoma due to a ruptured blood vessel. She then had an emergency craniectomy.

However, almost two weeks after the first surgery, Derek Hough’s wife underwent another skull surgery. Fortunately, she was able to celebrate the holidays at home.

In the latest update, Erbert showed off his short hairstyle, which made the surgical scar on his head more visible. “A new haircut, a new scar, a new sac of fluid on the side of my face,” Hayley declared. “Which is supposed to eventually go away. A new skull. But also a new vision of life.”

Derek Hough’s wife then stated that life is very precious. “Spend time with your loved ones. Keep them close because you never know what could happen.”

Erbert explained that he still has some “really bad days” and “really good days” both emotionally and physically. But despite the difficult days, she is doing “much better every day.”

Derek Hough calls wife’s recovery ‘from high to low’

Meanwhile, Derek Hough opened up about how he’s been handling things while his wife Hayley recovers from her skull surgeries.

“It’s been crazy going from the highest to the lowest,” Hough explained. “But I have to say that throughout this experience, this woman has been incredible and it’s been extraordinary to witness firsthand her perseverance and her acceptance of the whole situation, the strength of her.”

Derek Hough also described his wife as a miracle. “It’s been miraculous and it’s still a journey,” he continued.

Erbert then thanked his fans for their continued support as he recovers. “Thank you all very much for all your messages, your love, your energy, your light, your prayers,” he stated.

“Thank you all for all this because it means a lot to me and to us as a family. And honestly, I think that’s what helped me get through this a little faster and what helped me heal.”

Derek Hough’s wife later said the support has helped her stay positive throughout the situation. She is also grateful to be alive to tell her story.
