Demon Slayer Cosplay Perfectly Recreates Gyutaro & It’s Terrifying

Reddit user and cosplayer sam_mills has shared a recent look at their Gyutaro cosplay, perfectly capturing the terrifying demon seen in Demon Slayer‘s season 2. The demon debuted as a major antagonist during the show’s Entertainment District Arc. The second season concluded in February 2022.

Introduced in episode 40, “Transformation,” Gyutaro was voiced by Ryōta Ōsaka in the anime. Gyutaro is the shared-Upper Rank Six demon of the Twelve Kizuki alongside sister Daki. Transformed more than a century before the events of the anime, Gyutaro is a cruel demon who targets those he believes lived a better life than the one he and his sister had. Eventually falling to Tanjiro’s blade, he and Daki pass away together. While a third season has been confirmed, the second season ended with a glimpse at the demon who personally turned both Gyutaro and Daki into demons as children, Doma. Though the tragic, but brutal character has been defeated, one fan has brought the dangerous foe back to life.

Sharing their cosplay to the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba subreddit, user sam_mills posted a photo of their upgraded Gyutaro cosplay that they wore for Katsucon. In the selfie, mills’ cosplay manages to perfectly capture the tragic antagonist’s appearance, complete with his gruesome, bloody pair of Flesh Kama. The cosplay features plenty of the character’s unique details, such as the ink-like markings seen on Gyutaro’s body, while the wig captures his messy two-toned black and green hair, and mills’ makeup replicates the villain’s demonic eyes. A top-selling manga in Japan, Demon Slayer is one of the biggest genre hits in recent years, quickly rising in popularity to join the ranks of long-running series like One Piece. Praised for its story and its beloved characters, the series received an anime adaptation in 2019 from studio Ufotable, which was mostly known for its adaptations of the Fate/ series. Weekly Shōnen Jump’s editor-in-chief Hiroyuki Nakano stated that the anime adaptation’s first season helped boost the series’ popularity, as word of mouth and social media reception helped the series gain more recognition. After a successful first season, the series received a film adaptation, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba – The Movie: Mugen Train, which quickly broke Japanese box office records and challenged large Western titles upon its US release at the box office.

While fans may have to wait for the third season of Demon Slayer, the recent season has given them plenty of new characters to discuss and enjoy. With the fandom often showing how creative it could be, sam_mills’ cosplay is a perfect example of the talent found in the community. The cosplay perfectly captures Gyutaro’s demonic form in a striking way, truly bringing the character into the real world.
