‘Deliverance’ actor Herbert ‘Cowboy’ Coward dies at 85

Herbert ‘Cowboy’ Coward, best known for his role in Release, He supposedly died on Wednesday, January 24. He was 85 years old at the time of his death.

According to Us Weekly, Coward died in a car accident on 23/19 between Clyde and Canton in Haywood County, North Carolina. The North Carolina State Highway Patrol confirmed that the actor, his girlfriend Bertha Brooks, their pet Chihuahua and the squirrel died in the accident.

Herbert ‘Cowboy’ Coward was reportedly turning onto the road when he was hit by a speeding truck, driven by a 16-year-old boy, who was not believed to be speeding. Both Coward and Brooks were not wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. The teenage driver was later taken to the hospital and did not suffer any injuries.

Coward was found at fault for the accident by the North Carolina State Highway Patrol because he failed to yield to traffic.

Before dating Brooks, Herbert ‘Cowboy’ Coward was married to Dorothy Ledford for 51 years before her death in September 2011. They had four children together.

In 2018, Burt Reynolds spoke to Conan O’Brien about recommending Herbert ‘Cowboy’ Coward for the Release role.
