On the evening of 2 November 2023, he was arrested from Jajpur on charges of rape, molestation, physical and mental torture and cheating. Reportedly, he met a girl from Bhadrak about two years ago in 2021 and later had physical relations with her on the pretext of getting married and also took Rs 5 lakh from her during this period; However, later he started distancing himself from her and did not respond to her calls or messages. She filed two police complaints, one at Nayapalli police station, number 103/2023, in Bhubaneswar and the other in Bhadrak, against him. In her complaint, the girl alleged that Debesh also took nude photographs of her, made obscene videos and threatened to release them publicly if she raised the matter in the media. She also alleged that when she became pregnant with Debesh’s child, he forced her to have an abortion by taking pills. She also accused Debesh of having an affair with an Oriya singer. Inspector Satyaranjan Pradhan, in-charge of Nayapalli police station, while talking to the media, talked about the sections of the FIR and said,
Following a direction from a local court, a case has been registered against the singer under various sections including section 376 (2) (n) of the IPC and the IT Act. He was arrested on Thursday evening and later sent to court.
Pradhan also told the media that Debesh was arrested on the basis of WhatsApp chats and money transaction details. His family members say that this could be a conspiracy to tarnish Debesh’s image.
