In 2007, Daya Shankar Singh contested the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election from Ballia constituency on a Bharatiya Janata Party ticket, but he lost. He contested the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly election again from Ballia Nagar constituency in March 2022 on Bharatiya Janata Party ticket. He defeated Narada Rai of Samajwadi Party by a margin of 26,239 votes and became the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Assembly member. He was appointed as the Transport Minister and assumed office on 25 March 2022.
