Career
He spent a few days in Nashville when he was 20 and was encouraged to pursue a career in music. After that he moved to Music City and started performing at parties. There he piqued the interest of producer Keith Stegall’s daughter. David landed a contract with Mercury Records when she informed her father that she had talent worth listening to.
He released his debut single, “Memphis,” in 2002, and although the song charted on the Country Singles chart, Mercury decided not to release the album he recorded for them, and he quickly lost his record deal. In April 2007, he signed a contract with MCA Records Nashville. All this was made possible by producer Frank Liddell. And “I’m About to Come Alive,” Nail’s first MCA single, was released in 2008 and was better than his first song. However, his next song, ‘Red Light’, released in February 2009, peaked at number seven on the national singles chart, earning Nail a gold record.
Nail recorded an album for MCA following the song’s success, and this time 2009’s I’m About to Come Alive was deemed worthy of a release, peaking at No. 19 on the country album chart. Similarly, in February 2011, Nail released “Let It Rain”, which became his first country number one song. In 2013, Nail had another big hit, ‘Whatever She’s Got’, which earned him a platinum sales award. It was his first single from his third MCA album, 2014’s I’m a Fire, which debuted at number three on the country album chart. David has since released two more singles, both of which were successful. Nail revealed a new project as frontman for David Nail & The Well Ravens in 2018. Only This And Nothing More, the band’s first album, will be released independently on September 14, 2018.
