“After much consideration of what the Raiders require moving forward, I have decided to part ways with Josh and Dave.” I want to thank them both for their efforts and wish them and their families all the best.”
The decision comes on the heels of the Raiders’ 26-14 loss to Detroit on “Monday Night Football,” their second straight loss to drop their record to 3-5. McDaniels and Ziegler were named by Davis in January 2022, and both had ties to the Patriots organization. McDaniels was in his second season as New England’s offensive coordinator and Ziegler was the director of player personnel.
To fill the void, the Raiders named linebackers coach Antonio Pierce as interim head coach. They also announced that Champ Kelly, the current assistant general manager, will serve as interim GM. Furthermore, the Raiders have stated that they intend to conduct an extensive search for a new full-time head coach and general manager after the 2023 season.
