On Saturday, November 12, 2022, Dave Chappelle returns as host of Saturday Night Live. Dave will introduce the series for the third time. After the landmark election in the United States, the comedian will host the SNL show with the guest singer Black Star. This is especially important because Dave tends to make ‘witty’ assessments of the political scene. Chappelle made her debut on Saturday Night Live on November 12, 2016, shortly after Donald Trump was elected president. He then appeared on Saturday Night Live after Joe Biden beat Trump.
While many were relieved to see him back, others were of mixed opinion. One social media user said on Twitter:
“Is it Dave again?” The previous period was not fun. #SNL.”
Netizens split over Dave Chappelle’s return to Saturday Night Live after a two-year hiatus.
Comedian Amy Schumer was the first to reveal Chappelle would be returning to the show. Chapelle’s return was further confirmed today, November 6, 2022, when the show’s Twitter account posted an official announcement. After that, netizens took to social media to express their feelings about Chapelle’s return to his hometown. According to one social media user:
“I love Saturday Night Live. I have always been a fan. However, Dave Chappelle as host is not a good idea. You choose your first non-binary actor and then choose a proud and outspoken transgender person. Oh, what a disappointment.”
However, many residents praised the comic, with one user writing:
“Dave Chappelle is one of the best comedians today.” But all I see from the response is the salt. This is what SNL got after years of serving these people. Even with this guest, people like me keep coming back to SNL. “I just laughed.”
All the people who were really upset that Dave Chappelle was about to host the SNL show had obviously never seen Eddie Murphy’s performance. 😬 pic.twitter.com/0xopkhZwEa

Aside from his political jokes, Chappelle is known for frequently insulting the transgender community, which has gotten him into trouble in the past. As commented by one user:
“No better than #SNL to provide a platform to transform Dave Chappelle.”
Dave was fired by Netflix after workers called for him to be fired for comments he made about the transgender community during the 2021 Netflix special The Closer. On the other hand, Chappelle showed no remorse for her remarks on the show, saying:
“I said exactly what I said. According to media reports, I was asked to speak to Netflix’s transgender staff, but declined. Measure not true; If they ask me, I’ll take it, though I’m not sure what we’ll talk about.”
