Darryl Strawberry Hospitalized After Heart Attack, Bedside Photo Released

Former Mets and New York Yankees star Darryl Strawberry is recovering in the hospital after suffering a heart attack.

According to Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz, Strawberry’s heart attack occurred on Monday, just one day before the MLB star’s 62nd birthday. Fortunately, however, he is already on the road to recovery.

In an Instagram post, Darryl Strawberry shared a photo of himself smiling in a hospital bed surrounded by his loved ones.

“Praising God for His amazing grace and loving mercy in saving my life tonight from a heart attack,” Strawberry wrote. “I am very happy and honored to report that everything is fine.”

“I am so grateful for the medical team and staff at St. Joseph West in Lake St. Louis for responding so quickly and getting me through a stent procedure that has brought my heart to full restoration!!!” the MLB legend continued.

“Your prayers are absolutely appreciated as I continue to recover, in Jesus Name!”

Mets prepare to retire Darryl Strawberry’s number

As Mets spokesman Jay Horwitz explained, Darryl Strawberry is resting comfortably and well on his way to a full recovery.

In June, the Mets will retire Strawberry’s iconic number 18. The move will follow the April retirement of the No. 16 of Dwight Gooden, who led the team to a 1986 World Series title alongside Darryl Strawberry.

Mets owner Steven Cohen and his wife Alex issued a statement regarding the upcoming retirement. “We look forward to Straw’s speedy recovery and welcome him to his number retirement ceremony on June 1,” they said.

In the wake of Strawberry’s health scare, many friends and fans took to her Instagram comments to celebrate her recovery.
