Danielle Outlaw is an American law enforcement officer who became commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department. Danielle Outlaw previously served as police chief of the Portland Police Bureau in Oregon. Additionally, she was the first African American woman to lead the Portland office.
Early life and childhood
Danielle Outlaw was born in September 1975 in the United States of America. She is 45 years old and has American nationality. However, the exact date of birth of her as well as the place of birth of her are not available till now.

Career and professional life
Danielle Outlaw began her law enforcement career with the Oakland Police Department in California. She later rose through the ranks to deputy chief after various assignments including patrol, community services, the police chief’s office, the criminal investigation division, internal affairs and the inspector general’s office.
Furthermore, during her time in Oakland, she even thought that police should change their communication styles and suggested that women’s so-called “soft skills” could help them communicate with other communities and avoid potentially dangerous situations.
In 2017, when Mayor Ted Wheeler announced that Outlaw would become the new chief, he mentioned his goal of changing the way policing is perceived across the country.
Then, starting in 2017, she even took over as police chief of the Portland Police Bureau. She was able to experience a major change when she moved from Oakland to Portland to take her new position.
However, she is one of the few chiefs hired outside the Portland Police Bureau in the past two decades. She even joined the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, which helped her create a strong community in Oakland.

And, before leaving her position, she had to face criticism for her perceived bias against anti-fascist activists in Portland.
And later, in an interview with conservative radio host Lars Larson, he made a comparison that some found controversial. She even had the opportunity to serve as Portland’s police chief for a little over two years before moving to Philadelphia.
Additionally, she was appointed Commissioner of the Philadelphia Police Department on December 30, 2019. She subsequently resigned from this position on September 5, 2023, to become deputy director of security for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. . John M. Stanford Jr. took over as interim commissioner on September 22, 2023.
