Daniel Vitalis is an American hunter-gatherer, podcast host, author, Registered Maine Guide, public speaker, and entrepreneur. He is the founder of Wildfed, a podcast and lifestyle brand that encourages people to live a hunter-gatherer lifestyle.

Daniel Vitalis was born in 1977 (age 43 years; as in 2020) in New Hampshire, United States. As an adult, he learned to hunt, fish, and forage. Currently, he lives in Bridgeton, Maine, US.

His father was a paleontologist who left the family when Daniel was very young. His mother suffered from mental health problems. In 2005, he met Avni, a French-Canadian teacher. They got into a relationship in 2015 and got married in 2018.
livelihood
After Daniel became a vegetarian, he started spreading awareness about being vegetarian. Before abandoning the vegan lifestyle, he attended conferences and workshops in North America and abroad for nearly ten years. In 2008, he founded SurThrival.com, a nutrition company that markets health supplements and food.
In June 2014, he created a podcast called ‘Rewild Yourself Podcast’, which is available on iTunes and Stitcher Radio.
In 2019, he created the ‘Wildfed Podcast’ to inspire people to start their own wild-food journey.
He also set up a website called ‘Find a Spring’ where you can track down springs near you.

- As a teenager, he became a vegetarian, and later, he became a raw-food vegan for about 10 years. According to Daniel,
I discovered veganism in the early days of the Internet, and I was emotionally overwhelmed by its ethics.
- After Daniel read a dentist’s book, he became convinced that animal foods were essential to a healthy human diet. He gave up vegetarianism. However, he was already a speaker at vegetarian events, which later became a problem for him as he would go on stage to speak about problems related to the vegetarian diet. Due to this he was soon thrown out of the vegetarian community.
- After abandoning vegetarianism, he began searching for food and was guided by Arthur Haynes, a botanist who runs the primitive-living-focused Delta Institute of Natural History in Canton, Maine. Eventually he started his own ‘Rewild Yourself Podcast’ and began interviewing experts in the field while exploring the hunter-gatherer lifestyle. Later, he learned hunting, when he realized he wanted to do it honestly.
